One of our own, for many years, passed away recently.

Lucilla Henderson was very involved with the Brazosport Chamber for over 25 years. She served as board chairwoman in 1998 and was involved in numerous committees over the years. She was instrumental in creating our tourism division, which began in 1997. Since its inception, she has been extremely involved with the Chamber's only major fundraiser, Taste of the Town, including this year's event. She was named Outstanding Woman of the Year in 2011, a well-deserved honor.

She was a great leader, always very knowledgeable about the issues to be addressed and a great mentor to so many people. She had many talents and approached everything she did with elegance and grace. She was one classy lady. We will miss her.

The Brazosport Convention and Visitors Council is a participant in the Visit Houston and Beyond program, a leisure tourism promotional initiative of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Brazosport Area is included, along with 13 other cities, in this program aimed at getting visitors to Houston to extend their stay in the region. One way this partnership is providing the Brazosport Area exposure is through trade shows.

Edith Fischer, Director of Tourism, attended the IPW International Travel Show with Visit Houston last month. The Visit Houston and Beyond group met with 20 international travel buyers, mostly tour operators, who were interested in booking trips to the Houston region.

We are also promoted to an international audience through the Visit Houston websites. Brazosport is featured under the Daytrips portion of and is also found on the site through preferred experiences.

Spanish-speakers can find information about the Brazosport area at on the Que Hacer page under Daytrips. There are two options for Chinese visitors,, and, both under the Beyond section.

We look forward to continuing this partnership in promoting the Brazosport area.
