The Federation for American Immigration Reform has learned that with unemployment at its highest rate in 25 years at about 10 percent. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords,
D-Ariz, is prepared to introduce legislation to double the number of visas available annually for foreign workers under the H-1B program.
The program allows employers to bring foreign workers to the United States to work in specialty occupations that require “the practical application of a body of specialized knowledge and a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent.” Sources indicate Giffords has yet to introduce her legislation but it will be similar to “The Innovation Employment Act.”
At that time Microsoft was part of the lobbying special interest groups seeking access to cheap foreign labor. Guess what? Government studies indicate the program is highly susceptible to fraud. Goes to show you we as the public do not have a clue to what they are doing to our country.
Something else is going on we are not seeing, or maybe we do and no one cares. It’s not about Democrats or Republicans, it is about us and what is being done to all of us. It should be us controlling the government, not them controlling us.

Some firefighters are disrespectful
I respect volunteer firefighters, as they bravely serve to protect life and property even with no pay. Unfortunately, I’ve seen vehicles with license plates marked with “Certified Firefighter,” who whether they’re responding to a call or not, believe they are above the traffic laws. It’s a shame that out of all of the dedicated firefighters in this county, a couple of them have to be so arrogant and disrespectful of other citizens. I pray to God these gentleman doesn’t operate the actual fire trucks.

Parents should teach kids some respect
My husband and I attended my son’s band concert Thursday night at Freeport Intermediate. This is the time when we are able to see him perform with his peers and see how well he is progressing as well as the other children in his band. What should have been an evening of enjoyable music was disrupted by a handful of young children running, screaming, crying , completely unsupervised by their parents. I was amazed how these parents allowed these children to completely disrupt the night.
I thank the parents of young children that were there and kept their children quiet and controlled. I understand that a baby sitter might be hard to come by, but in a situation like this, not only was it rude and disruptive to the audience, but also disrespectful for the children and the band directors that were performing.
Parents, If you cannot get a sitter, stay home.

Take time to honor, remember veterans
As a proud Desert Storm veteran, who is a son of a Vietnam veteran, I find it very sad that Veterans Day is just thought of as just another day. Please take the time to reflect on all of the people who given so much for the freedom we all enjoy and even their lives. I hope that everyone in our area will remember the true meaning of Veterans Day.
And as we near the holidays, please keep our deployed troops and their families in your prayers. Send a care package or donate to a program the supports our troops and veterans, such as VFW Operation Uplink, www.operationuplink.org. Always remember those who have fought for your freedom!
