CLUTE — A vehicle caught fire Saturday afternoon in the 700 block of South Shanks Street.
The call came in at 1:21 p.m., officers at the scene said, and the fire was extinguished by 1:40 p.m. The fire was just a couple blocks from Clute Fire Department.
There was no structure damage in the fire, Clute Fire Department’s Lt. Chris Perkins said. Some low-hanging branches above the burned Jeep showed visible charring.
No one was injured, Clute Fire Marshal Michael Waguespack said when reached by phone Saturday afternoon.
The vehicle had recently been refueled, and the operators noticed it smoking from under the hood when they returned home.
