Woman crossing busy road struck by vehicle

No charges were immediately filed against the driver who hit a woman crossing a busy highway Tuesday night, police said.

A 24-year-old woman walked into the roadway shortly after 9 p.m. at the 800 block of South Velasco Street when a man driving a white Chevy pickup hit her, officials said.

The woman was conscious at the scene of the accident but taken by helicopter to a Houston hospital for treatment, according to an Angleton Police Department news release.

The driver, a 70-year-old man, consented to a blood test and no charges have been brought against him at this time, police said.

The incident is under investigation by the Angleton Police Department, the release states.
