Pickups collide when one attempts U-turn

A man who changed his mind about what direction he wanted to go resulted in another driver heading to the hospital after their two pickups collided, Freeport Police Chief Ray Garivey said.

The driver of a blue 2019 Chevy Silverado pulled out of the Buc-ee’s Beach Store at FM 523 and Highway 332 and headed south toward Surfside Beach, Garivey said. The driver changed his mind and attempted to make a U-turn on Highway 332 when an approaching Chevy Colorado ran into the Silverado, police said.

The impact caused the Silverado to flip onto its roof, but the driver managed to walk away without any apparent injuries, Garivey said.

The Colorado’s driver, a man in his 70s, went by ambulance to CHI St. Luke’s Health Brazosport hospital in Lake Jackson with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, Garivey said.

Neither driver was cited in the crash, Garivey said.
