Students from Brazoswood High and Lake Jackson Intermediate recently advanced to the state level in Science Olympiad competition. Science Olympiad is a cross-curricular, team-based, rigorous, science competition that emphasizes problem solving, and hands-on constructive learning practices.
The students competed in the regional competition in March, where the Lake Jackson Intermediate team placed first and the Brazoswood Science Olympiad team placed third, which advances both teams to the state competition on April 21 in College Station.
The first-place team from Lake Jackson Intermediate School, under the instruction of Lynn Robertson, Catherine Towery and Kimberly Broaddus includes: Hans Aggarwal, who won first place in Fast Facts, first in Potions and Poisons, third place in Science Word and third in We’ve Got Your Number; Davin Cai, who won first place in Ecology and third place in the Wright Stuff; Jordan Csikos; Joseph Dyess, who won second place in Meterology, fourth place in Optics, third place in Science Word and first in Rocks and Minerals; Karim Elyoussef, who won second place in Towers and third place in We’ve Got Your Number; Yousef Elyoussef, who won fourth place in Disease Detectives; Kyle Evangelista, who won second place in Towers; Amanda Korsah, who got second place in Crime Busters and first place in Invasive Species; Neha Krishnan, who won first in Potions and Poisons, first in Fast Facts and fourth place in Anatomy and Physiology; Victoria Marroquin, who won second place in Crime Busters; Shawn MacGregor, who won fourth place in Optics and fourth in Disease Detectives; Kris Nicholson, who won first in Ecology; Skyler Thompson; Sarah Stewart, who won first in Rocks and Minerals and third in Wright Stuff; and Kali Warren, who won second in Meteorology, fourth in Anatomy and Physiology and first in Invasive Species.
The third-place team from Brazoswood High School includes: Cayla Cleburn; Zackary Dobert, who won fifth place in Hovercraft; Camille Edwards, who won fourth in Fermi and third in Helicopter; Brendan Fattig, who won first in ChemLab and fourth in Fermi; Fisher Fugler, who won fourth in Optics and third in Robotic Arm; Emma Nguyen, who won fifth place in Rocks and Minerals; Riley Matteck, who won first in Electric Vehicle; Anthony McBride, who won first in Electric Vehicle and third in Picture This; John Redden, who won second in Astronomy and fourth place in Game On; Michael Rudolf, who won third in Helicopter and third in Picture This; Gundeep Singh, who won fifth in Rocks and Minerals and fifth in Anatomy and Physiology; Jeffrey Sims, who won third in Robotic Arm, fourth in Game On and fourth in Optics; Vivie Tran, who won first in Chem Lab; Brian Wang, who won first in Invasive Species and second in Astronomy; and Brianna Wang, who won first in Invasive Species.
