DAR celebrates Texas Independence

The Daughters of the Republic of Texas celebrates Texas Independence at the Stephen F. Austin statue in Angleton. Groups of homeschooled children played games from the “old days” and heard a cannon fired. Group members demonstrated churning butter, and taught weaving and quilting and rope-making. From left to right are Tissie Schwebel, West Columbia; Linda Huskey, Lake Jackson; Freda Fondon, West Columbia; Carolyn Joachim, Alvin; Bartlett Ramsey, Angleton; Pearlie Cooper, Alvin; Judy Johnson, Sweeny; and Margaret Norman, Angleton.
