Betty Ellen Rio, beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother died Friday morning, November 9, 2012 peacefully in her sleep in her home in Lake Jackson at age 89.

She was born in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania on April 10, 1923 to George Burns Coder and Emma Elizabeth Monsell Coder, one of 11 children. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Rio. She is survived by her children Mike Rio and wife Myra; grandchildren Gabriel Rio and wife Mona; great-grandchildren Sonia Kanta Rio and Kiran Isabel Rio, and grandson Adam Rio, as well as son Tim Rio and wife, Lisa, son Jim Rio, and wife, Robin, and daughter Sandie Speed and husband, Richard; granddaughter Breanne Adkins and husband, Brandon, and great-grandson Kale John Parker and great-granddaughter, Bailey Michelle Adkins.

After her husband's death in 1973, Betty became a nurse and worked many years at Angleton Danbury Hospital until her retirement. After her retirement and until her death she continued to volunteer at Angleton Danbury Hospital and just last week received a 25 year service award for her volunteer efforts.

A memorial service for Betty, will be held at the Carriage Inn at 103 Lake Road in Lake Jackson at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13.

She will be dearly missed for her kind and loving soul. She will always be in our hearts.
