James Howell “Jim” Cobb
James Howell “Jim” Cobb, also known as “Hal” to family and West Columbia classmates, came into this world at 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 1941, and ascended into heaven at around 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 25th, 2019 at the age of 77. Jim was born at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Hackberry, Louisiana to parents, James Alton Cobb of Rosebud, Texas and Gladys Cornelius Trafton of Garwood, Texas.
He attended and graduated from West Columbia High School in 1961. Upon graduating from high school, Jim joined and honorably served six years in the United States Marine Corp.
He married Darlene Clark in 1964 and had two children, Terri Ann and Jason Alton. Jim was an
attentive father and loved his children dearly, making it his life’s ambition to pass on fatherly wisdom and an abiding faith in God.
He went to work for Bell Telephone on October 10, 1966 where he earned the title of installation and repair supervisor and later retired with 30 years of service. Upon retiring from Bell, Jim attended and graduated from the University of Houston Law Enforcement Academy, which lead him to earn two additional retirements. The first from West Columbia Police Department, where he was promoted to the command rank of Sergeant, and the second from Brazoria County Constable’s Office – Pct. 4, where he rose to the distinguished rank of Chief Deputy.
Jim married Jeanie LeFloor in 1993, and lived vibrantly and happily with her, until the day of his passing. He loved to spend time with his family, travel the world, mountain hunting trips, and building and flying his model airplanes.
He was an active member of the West Columbia Lions Club, the American Legion Post 503, St. Johns #5 Masonic Lodge, and the RC Modelers Club. He served as chaplain for the American Legion Post 503 and was serving as Junior Deacon in St John’s Masonic Lodge #5.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother and father.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanie Cobb; daughter, Terri Boatman (husband RJ, and two grandsons, Rhett and Ryder); son, Jason Cobb (wife Erin, and two grandsons Noah and Jackson); stepson, Jeff LeFloor (wife Bonnie, and one granddaughter, Leila); and his brother, Charles Lee Borskey and wife, Jane; nephews, Randy and Mark; cousin, Gary Ellis and wife, Estela; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved cat, Kissy.
He lived an exemplary and godly life, and was loved and respected by all.
A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of West Columbia Texas at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2019. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time also at the church. Additionally, there will be a Masonic memorial service at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15 at the Saint John’s #5 Masonic Lodge in West Columbia, Texas. Jim will be laid to rest in Rosebud, Texas on Sunday, June 16, 2019.
