Billie Ann (DeWitt) Pirtle

Billie Ann (DeWitt) Pirtle passed from this earth to her heavenly home on June 9, 2018. She was born in Richland, Missouri to W.C. DeWitt and Florence Yadon DeWitt on September 8, 1930.

Billie lived a full life, traveling with the family for her father’s career. They lived in Missouri, California, and Texas. Billie graduated from Freeport High School. She married John W. Pirtle on September 6, 1952. The traveling lifestyle continued, as John was in the Air Force. They lived in Texas, England, Illinois, and Mississippi. Their oldest child, Shane, was born in Harlingen, Texas. Two of their children, Shaun and Sharon, were born in England, over a box of Texas soil. Shalden was born in Illinois. Once John retired from the Air Force, they settled in Clute, then later moved to Brazoria.

Billie was very active, as long as she was able. She was fiercely independent and hard-working. She loved to garden and do yard work. Billie was very clever with her hands; she crocheted and did other craftwork as well.She loved her children and her grandchildren, and spent as much time with them as possible. Family gatherings were very dear to her.

Billie is survived by her four children, Shane Pirtle (Linda), Shaun Pirtle (Joy), Sharon Alvarez (Frank), and Shalden Pirtle (Dawn). Also missing Billie’s presence will be grandchildren, Heather Pirtle, Jeremy Pirtle (Jan), Brittany Pirtle Benge (Joey), Cody Pirtle, Dustin Pirtle, Kendall Alvarez, Carmen Caver, Chelsea Wleczyk, and Calysta Wleczyk. Billie’s great-grandchildren are Ciara Pirtle Romero (Jacob), Steveney Anderson,Dylan Anderson, MacKenna Anderson,Brinly Pirtle, Chloe Pirtle, Aryn Benge, Easton Benge, and Briley Benge. She has one great-great-grandchild, Rhodri Romero. Billie also leaves several nephews, nieces, and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, of 52 years; sisters, Nell Meyer and Virginia Coots Gaubatz; brother, Sonny DeWitt; and her parents.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Stroud Funeral Home in Clute, TX, at 4:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 5:00 p.m. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Brazoria County Association for Children with Handicaps (BACH), Brazoria Heritage Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
