Willie Edison, 84, of Freeport TX, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 30, 2012, at Herman Memorial Hospital, Houston, TX. He was born May 10, 1928 in Bay City, TX to Zeddie Norris and Thurman Edison, Jr. Willie grew up in the Bay City and Bell Bottom, TX communities. Willie lived in Freeport most of his adult life. He was a self taught and very skilled plumber and worked throughout the Brazoria County and surrounding communties. He was a faithful member of First St. Emanuel Baptist Chruch, Freeport, where he served as a deacon and served on the usher board. He was also the Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, and sang with the male chorus and performed numerous other duties as needed.
Willie is preceeded in death by his wife of 38 years, Angeline Brown Edison, his parents, his sister, Daisy Phillips, and grandson, Jelani Lewis.
Willie leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 27 years, Carrie Young Edison; two sons, Merl James Edison and Floyd (Debra) Edison, of Houston, TX; two daughters, Thelma (William) Lewis, of Colorado Springs, CO, Wilesta (Dail) Ballard, Freeport, TX; three step-daughters, LaTangia Burnette, of Houston, TX, LoQuita and Pearl Burnette, of Freeport, TX; two sisters, Ina Edison and Carrie Powell of Houston, TX; two brothers, Thurman Edison, of Bay City, TX and Birthol (Bessie) Edison of Houston TX; eight grand children, Khari Lewis, Osmana (Chris) Scales, Weenica Ballard, Fudail Ballard, Christine Edison, Akil Ballard, Daisha Watson, Veronica, Okiuente, and Faith Deverger; Mother in law Josephine Young; God Children Tammy Hudson, NaQui Davidson, Delorian Stredic; and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at Duncan Roberts Funeral Home, 2500 Avenue C, Bay City, TX 77404, on Friday, October 5, 2012 from 2 to 8 pm. A celebration of Willie's life will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Greater Mt Zion Church, 6437 FM 521, Brazoria, TX 77422, Pastor R.W. Griggs, Eulogist.
