Woman charged in fraudulent coupon use

Police charged a 19-year-old Angleton woman with fraudulent use of coupons, a state jail felony, after they say she re-used coupons from the business where she worked to save her friends more than $2,000, Officer Belinda Rickman said.

Jessica Campbell is accused of reusing coupons when she worked at a business in the 100 block of Dixie Drive from Aug. 20 to Sept. 11, Rickman said.

Campbell turned herself in Tuesday and was released from Brazoria County jail on Wednesday on a $5,000 bond.

Woman walks in during burglary

A 44-year-old Clute woman reported she came home at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday to find electronics on her living room floor, her son’s bedroom door closed and noises coming from the room, Officer Belinda Rickman said.

The woman heard her son’s shutters open and saw a man climb out the window with a large bag at her apartment in the 300 block of Hackberry Street, Rickman said. The woman then chased the man through the complex before losing him, she said.

The burglar dropped the bag of stolen items during the chase, but still left with some electronics worth $250, her planner and a check, she said.

Police are investigating possible suspects, Rickman said.

Man arrested for evading arrest

Police responded to a call reporting a fight and later arrested a 19-year-old Clute man on evading arrest charges after they said he ran from police, Officer Belinda Rickman said.

Without knowing why the man was running from them, police chased him through an apartment complex in the 300 block of Hackberry Street at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Rickman said. Police lost the man, but they heard a woman screaming for someone to get out of her apartment, she said.

They found the man inside, she said.

The man was in Clute jail on Wednesday in lieu of a $6,500 bond.

LAKE JACKSON

Man charged with possession of cocaine

After a fire alarm brought police to a hotel room, they found three bags of cocaine in a man’s shoe, Lt. Rick Park said.

Police responded to a fire alarm at 9:42 p.m. Tuesday at a hotel room in the 900 block of Highway 332-E, Park said. Though no one answered when they knocked, but management let them into the room, he said.

The hotel room smelled of marijuana and police found marijuana residue on the toilet bowl, Park said. When they searched the five people in the room, they found three bags of cocaine in the shoe of Joshua Lorenzo Moreno, 25, of Freeport, he said.

Moreno was charged with possession of a controlled substance and criminal mischief for breaking the fire alarm when it went off, Park said. Police suspect the alarm was triggered by the group smoking marijuana, he said.

He also was arrested on an assault warrant from May 30, he said. Moreno was released from Brazoria County jail Wednesday on a $60,000 bond.

Two charged with burglary

Police charged two Lake Jackson residents with stealing electronics from a home in the 200 block of North Shady Oaks Drive, Lt. Rick Park said.

Kelvin Rene Busch, 22, and Kasey Tumlinson, 24, were arrested at their home in the 100 block of Plantation Drive West at 8:47 a.m. Tuesday, Park said. The two are accused of taking a game system and games worth $680 from a home where they had previously stayed, he said.

Busch was released from Brazoria County jail on Wednesday on a $35,000 bond and Tumlinson was released from Lake Jackson jail on Tuesday on a $2,000 bond.

Purse taken from car

A 53-year-old Clute woman reported a purse with $500 cash was taken from her car parked outside a restaurant in the 100 block of West Way, Lt. Rick Park said.

The woman’s 1996 Chevrolet Blazer’s door was pried open and the purse taken between 1:50 and 9:43 p.m. Tuesday, Park said.

Police have no suspects, but are reviewing video from the parking lot, he said.
