Postseason accolades continue to come in for the state champion Angleton Ladycat softball team.

Several Ladycats were among local players selected to the Texas Sportswriters Association all-state teams released today.

Ladycat head coach Cindy Rubio was named coach of the year and pitcher Aaliyah Garcia pitcher of the year on the Class 5A team.

Garcia was also a first-team selection at pitcher. Ellie Grill was selected as a second-team outfielder.

Earning honorable mention for the Ladycats were third baseman Mia Scott and shortstop Danieca Coffey.

Rubio led the Ladycats to a 39-2 record and the program’s first state championship since 1994.

Garcia was 30-2 with a 1.39 ERA and 279 strikeouts. At the plate, she batted .447 with 14 doubles and 65 RBIs. Grill batted .504 with a home run, eight doubles, five triples and 31 RBIs.

Scott batted .584 with four home runs 15 doubles, three triples and 40 RBIs. Coffey batted .430 with three home runs 10 triples, six doubles and 35 RBIs.

On the Class 4A team, Sweeny pitcher Cassie Homniok was a third-team selection. Lady Bulldog first baseman Alie Robertson and utility/designated player Cori Byrd earned honorable mention.

Homniok had a 0.67 ERA with five no-hitters and two perfect games. At the plate, she batted .412 with five home runs, four triples, 17 doubles and 27 RBIs. Robertson batted .428 with three runs runs, 17 doubles, 31 RBIs and had a .999 fielding percentage.

Byrd batted .376 with four doubles, a triple and nine RBIs. In the circle, she had two no-hitters, a perfect game and a 0.89 ERA.

Columbia outfielder Haylie Oakes also earned honorable mention on the 4A team. Oakes batted .434 with a home run, seven doubles, two triples and eight RBIs.

Danbury’s Brooklynn Swacker was selected third-team first baseman on the 3A team. Swacker batted .506 for the state semifinalist Lady Panthers. She also had 17 doubles, two triples and 36 RBIs.

Other representatives from Brazoria County were Alvin catcher Victoria Valdez, third baseman Mary Pourciom shortstop Clarissa Barron and and Pearland outfielder Riley Martin who earned honorable mention on the Class 6A team.

Alvin Shadow Creek outfielder Jullian Gutierrez was a third-team selection on the 5A team. Manvel catcher Briana Garcia, Shadow Creek shortstop Aniyah Burns earned honorable mention.
