A dozen Southern Brazoria County girls soccer players have earned Academic All-State recognition by the Texas Girls Coaches Association for their academic production.
Seven Brazoswood Bucs and five Sweeny Lady Bulldogs garnered the honors.
The TGCA selects Academic All-State teams in soccer for conferences1A through 6A. Athletes and support staff must be seniors and must have a grade of 94 or above.
Nomi-nations are made by member coaches and the head varsity coach of the school must be a member of TGCA before Nov. 1 of each school year to be eligible to nominate athletes for honors.
Making the Class 6A team from Brazoswood were Gillian Anderson, Lydia Bundick, Katelyn Cooper, Kayla Cressman, Amanda Ellis, Emma Gray and Rylee Hallum.
The Lady Bucs went 20-2-3 overall and lost in the second round of the playoffs to Atascocita.
Bundick was a second-team all-district, academic all-district and Texas Association of Soccer Coaches academic all-state team selection.
Cressman was a first-team all-district, academic all-district and TASCO academic all-state selection and a first-team selection on The Facts Southern Brazoria All-County team.
Gray was a first-team all-district, academic all-district and TASCO academic all-state selection.
Hallum was the District 23-6A goalkeeper of the year, first-team all-district, academic all-district and TASCO academic all-state. The was also The Facts Southern Brazoria All-County goalkeeper of the year.
Class 4A honors for Sweeny went to Caitlyn Brown, Alivia Hassell, Kirby Phillips, Victoria Ritter and Jamie Zimmerhanzel.
The Lady Bulldogs went 13-13-2 last season and lost in the first round of the playoffs.
Brown was a member of The Facts Southern Brazoria All-County first team and a second-team all-district selection.
Hassell was also a member of The Facts Southern Brazoria All-County first team and was a first-team all-district selection.
Phillips, Ritter and Zimmerhanzel earned all-district honorable mention and all five players were academic all-district selections.
