FREEPORT — For the next five days, Southern Brazoria County will have an influx of anglers on the water and entertainment in Freeport Municipal Park as the 72nd annual Fishin’ Fiesta gets rolling today through Sunday.
Fishing for the event started at 12:01 a.m. today and continues until 3 p.m. Sunday.
Weigh station hours will be 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily through Friday, 9a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to noon Sunday.
Anglers must be in line prior to the closing deadline to have their catch recorded.
There will be mini fishing tournaments every day except for Sunday. Today’s inshore mini tournament will be a three-flounder stringer with offshore being the Jack Crevalle.
The Fishin’ Fiesta queen will be selected today at Riverplace.
On Thursday, the carnival will be open from 5 p.m. to midnight, and donation of a can of food will be good for half-off wristbands.
Friday’s inshore mini tournament is a trout stringer with offshore offering the kingfish.
The live bands take over the pavilion Friday starting with Crissy & The Clefs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. followed by Colby Swift from 8:30 to 10 p.m. and the Whiskey Daniels Band from 10:30 p.m. to midnight.
Saturday will be a busy day of events, including the inshore mini tournament for anglers as the Texas Slam is on deck as the offshore will feature the dolphin.
Kids fish, washer tournament, carnival, barbecue contest, cornhole tourney, watermelon-eating contest and the Lil’ Mr. and Miss contest will be some of the events on tap during the day.
At night, get ready for the sounds of Eighty Plus from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Grupo Vizion will perform from 8:30 to 10 p.m. — with a fireworks show at about 9 p.m. — and the Art Tigerina Band closes out the entertainment from 10:30 p.m. to midnight.
Sunday’s events will be all about the anglers with teh final hours of fishing leading up to the awards ceremony at 5 p.m. at Riverplace.
