Students in the news

Published October 21, 2009

Ein Cagle, a sixth-grader at Manvel Junior High, was selected to participate in the recent Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., based on school performance and TAKS grades.

He ranked in the national top 5 percent of students for his grade and has won awards in numerous after-school activities including UIL, the Texas Bluebonnet Reading Club and Destination Imagination, in which his group placed third in regionals.

The Congressional Youth Leadership council nominates exceptional students from around the country to experience the unique educational program. The theme of this year’s Junior National Young Leaders Conference was “The Legacy of American Leadership” and the curriculum takes students through the evolution of the United States, from the days of the original 13 colonies through the signing of the Declaration of Independence — from the Civil War through the Civil Rights Movement — and from the Boston Tea Party through to the present.

The Junior National Young Leaders Conference offers mature, high-achieving middle school students the opportunity to learn about leadership by studying the leaders of the past and by focusing on social advocacy to make a positive impact in their homes and communities. Students gain a better understanding of what it takes to become an effective leader.
