Actions of Clute officials deplorable
What Clute city officials did by stealing a reporter’s papers is completely inexcusable. Not only were they stealing from her, they were stealing from me and all residents of Clute.
While the City Council was in a firing mood, they should have fired the police chief. I’ve always had respect for Mark Wicker, but this is unacceptable. Then, Shelley Key and all city officials from the mayor down who saw what was happening and said nothing should resign.
Makes you wonder what other dishonorable things are going on. Remember to vote in the next election.

Proposed health care plan would limit services
A single payer nationalized health care system eventually will result in rationed care. Currently, there are 250 million Americans with health insurance. According to the National Center for Health Studies, there are fewer than 1 million physicians in the United States, or about one physician for every 330 people. Most of these physicians are in the Northeast states, about four per 1,000 people, while the Western states average only about two per 1,000 people.
Coupled with the scarceness of physicians is the fact 65 percent of them are 45 years of age or older. Adding 50 million people to the physicians’ patient lists will mean, on average, each physician will have to care for an additional 200 patients. Most of these physicians will retire in 20 years or less. The proposed health care plan will cut payments to physicians for services rendered.
Will any students want to enter the medical profession, work for less money and owe a massive amount of student loans?
Probably not.
A shortage of physicians together with rising cost and more patients will result in a reduction of services available to patients. An administrator, not physicians, will decide which types of treatment will be given. Are you ready?

Cat killer brought pain to family
To the cat killer,
May you never know the pain of losing a beautiful loving pet that only brought pleasure to others lives. He was our sweet natured white manx cat. I found him dead in the ditch where you left him. If your goal was to bring us heartache and pain, you have succeeded. May God have mercy on you.
I forgive you, for you don’t know the true happiness that living for the Lord brings. God bless you.

Religion shouldn’t be forced on others
In response to Bennie Cady Jr. (Voice of the People Sunday) Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise of religion. This not only protects the church, it respects the right of freedom of religion.
These men were escaping from Europe and forced religion — the inquisitions, burning at the stakes — all in the name of religion. They wanted to ensure this could never happen here.
My question is, why does what I do affect your faith?
I don’t rely on you for my faith. Nowhere in the Bible I read does it say anywhere that if my neighbor sins I’ll be held responsible, nor does it say if they are allowed to practice their belief anywhere, anytime.
I’ll go to heaven. If you have to have prayer in school then you need to get more faith. I can go to my church and teach my children what I want them to know. I don’t need anyone else to do it for me and I’ll fight you for that right.
We are right to be afraid of your religion and your desire that I must also practice it.

There’s nothing worth watching on TV anymore
What has happened to good old fashioned family television? No wonder there is so much petty crime. There is no amusement for families, children and teens to stay home and enjoy good shows on TV anymore.
Crime shows, hospital shows (death), bad language, nudity, sex and killings. Breasts, lots of breasts is about all you see. Aren’t there any writers who remember good old family television? Carol Burnett, Milton Berle, Ed Sullivan, etc.
I haven’t had a good belly laugh in a long time from a good comedy show. Who cares about “Desperate Housewives.” This housewife is desperate to see something worth watching on TV.
