Area roundup: Landycats hammer Lady Bucs

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Angleton 54, Brazoswood 25
The Angleton Ladycats burst out in the second quarter Monday and after three quarters were comfortably ahead, 35-14. Angleton improved to 5-3 overall while the Lady Bucs fell to 1-6.
Leading the scoring for Angleton was Nneka Louison with 14 points. Sierra Rollins had seven points, six rebounds and four steals.
Brazoswood’s Tiara McDonald led the Lady Bucs with 11 points.
On Nov. 27, Angleton will play at Barbers Hill and Brazoswood at Baytown Lee.
In the freshmen contest, Brazoswood won, 60-24. Chianti Butler had 12 points for the Ladycats.
Brazosport 54, Pasadena 24
The Lady Exporters did not waste any time Monday with Pasadena, getting ahead 18-4 after one period.
Brazosport rolled from that point as Inneka Stevenson led all scorers with 14 points and six assists.
Ashley Hobbs and Natasha Bryant each scored 11 points and Shawtall Steamer grabbed 12 rebounds.
Brazosport (2-1) will get back on the court today at 6 p.m. at home against Calhoun.
Columbia 55, Van Vleck 41
The Lady ’Necks improved to 5-1 after Monday’s victory over the Lady Leopards.
Columbia led from the start. The team held an 8-5 first quarter lead and was up 21-14 at the half. That Stretched to a 43-27 lead after three quarters.
Laura Whitehead led Columbia with 17 points while Ciera Thomas had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Others adding points were Courtney Scott with 12, Ebony Washington with seven and Natalie Rodriguez with four.
Columbia entertains Danbury at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 27.
Sweeny 48, Danbury 33
The Sweeny Lady Bulldogs pulled away after the first period Monday to improve to 3-0 on the young season.
Ashley Bonner led Sweeny with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Dorrie Thompson had 14 points and 13 rebounds and Chris Holmes added nine points for Sweeny.
Bianca Chambles led Danbury with 22 points.
Sweeny will not get back on the floor until Nov. 30 at the Brazos Tournament.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Santa Fe 44, Columbia 40
The Columbia Roughnecks evened their season record to 1-1 on Monday after dropping a close game to the Indians.
Santa Fe led 18-16 at the half and went into the fourth period with a 32-27 advantage.
Chad Ledbetter led Columbia with 10 points. Bryan Grable, Tramaine Thompson and Zach Garcia each scored six points. Matt Taylor had six rebounds.
Columbia will play Brazosport on Nov. 27.
