Cats won’t play in heavy rain

Golfers might want to keep their clubs indoors and dry today with the threat of some major thunderstorms in the area. The Rotary Club of Angleton is sure rain is on its way, and announced Thursday it was postponing its annual tournament.

The three-club Divots for Cats tournament was originally scheduled to tee off today at the Austin Bayou course in Danbury, but has been postponed, club president elect Jason Chavez said in an e-mailed statement.

The tournament will be rescheduled for “sometime in the spring.” All registration checks will be returned to teams already signed up, and the club will let golfers know the new tournament date when it is determined.

ACE: Rick Mikeska scored a hole-in-one Tuesday at the Alvin Golf and Country Club. He aced No. 7 from 154 yards out with a 6-iron.

GLOWING END: The Wilderness in Lake Jackson wrapped up its Wednesday Golfaholic Scramble season this week with a glow ball tournament.

The team event teed off at 5 p.m. for nine holes of play in daylight, and after a break played the final nine in the dark.

Winning the tournament with a low-gross 62 was the threesome of Ken Mueller, Rick Vallot and Frank DeHaven. Taking second place, one stroke back, was the team of Adam Robinson, Jay Sweaze, Travis Zimmerman and Pete Breazeale. Finishing third with a 64 was the group of Josh Bryan, Brian Griffin, Cody Hayes and Robert Fray.

Taking first in the low net competition at 55.10 was the foursome of Keith Setzer, Alan Day, Jody Caines and Sam Yonda. In second place at 55.70 was the team of J.D. Ritchey, Tanner Ritchey, Cody Williams and Zane Lezak. Placing third with a 58.20 was the group of Blayne Sparks, Stuart Williams, Jody Bryan and James Donnely.

Zimmerman was closest to the pin on the fourth hole and Hayes was closest on No. 13.

ALVIN: The Alvin Golf and Country Club hosted it senior scramble Wednesday. Winning was the team of Earl Callas, Lino Salinas, Richard Pierce, Jim Johnson and Lindy Schott. Taking second was the group of Jim Gaffney, Bill Thornton, Carl Wind, Mickey Wise and Ray Trapman. Finishing in third was the fivesome of Charlie Baker, Scott Lisenbe, Bob Burchmiller, Bob McReynolds and Bill Robinson.

COLUMBIA LAKES: The Columbia Lakes Resort in West Columbia recently hosted its annual men’s and women’s golf association scramble.

Taking first place with a 64 was the team of Tom Rentschler, Ronnie Richards, Jimmie Jordan and Pat Rentschler. In second place, one stroke behind, was the foursome of Joe Bob Garner, Jerry Brister, Danny Pelt and Darlene Garner.

Winning a scorecard playoff for third at 66 was the foursome of Jeanne Osborne, Bevil Gilbert, George Grosvernor, Terry Osborne. The team of Margie Pollard, Kurt Lammrish, Reigh Mussey and Jackie Jenkins finished fourth.
