Rikki Lyn Edge weds David Gene Calbert, Jr.

Rikki Lyn Edge and David Gene Calbert Jr. were married in a double-ring ceremony at four o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Family Life Church. Pastor Craig Taylor officiated the ceremony.

Rikki Lyn is the daughter of Rickey and Belinda Edge of Lake Jackson. She is the granddaughter of Faye Coupland of Lake Jackson, Buzz and Jo Ann Edge of Cuero, Ken and Sandra Gragert of Lovelady and the late Virgil Markwardt.

David is the son of David Sr. and Kim Calbert of Stafford. He is the grandson of Grace Vrooman of College Station, Lou Ruttkay of Arlington Heights, Illinois, the late Lois Ruttkay, the late Marie and Ernie Fisette and the late Robert Calbert.

The bride graduated from Brazoswood High School in 2001, and received her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the University of Louisiana in Monroe, Louisiana, in 2004. Rikki Lyn is currently a third-grade English as a Second Language teacher for Stafford Elementary School.

The groom graduated from Stafford High School in 2001, and recently completed his Master of Education Administration degree from Lamar University. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from Sam Houston State University. David is currently the varsity baseball coach and teaches Math and Special Education at Stafford High School.

Before the wedding ceremony, the bride honored her grandmother, Jo Ann Edge, with a special request for a sprinkling of fairy dust, which had been a special memory between the two since the bride was just a few years old.

Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore an elegant formal gown of shimmer satin and embroidery designed by Maggie Soterro, which was given to her by grandparents, Buzz and Jo Ann Edge. The gown featured a sculptured, strapless neckline accented with pewter embroidery, and was hand-beaded with Swarovski crystals, bugle beads, sequins and seed beads on the Basque bodice. The shoulder- length single-tier veil of ivory sparkle tulle, handmade by grandmother, Faye Coupland, was bordered with lace and pearls and featured a matching pearl headpiece. The bride’s bouquet was made of fuchsia peonies hand-tied with ivory satin and adorned with strands of silver and crystals.

Miss Erin Edge, bride’s sister, of Kingwood, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids included Mrs. Erin Matthews, bride’s friend, of Lake Jackson; Miss Candis Coupland, bride’s cousin, of Angleton; and Miss Katie Calbert, groom’s sister, of Stafford. Miss Kaitlyn McDaniel, bride’s cousin, of New Caney, served as junior bridesmaid. The attendants wore sleeveless knee-length dresses in marine satin or chiffon in varying styles, gold heels, and were adorned with jewelry selected by the maid of honor. They carried bouquets of fuchsia, magenta, purple and ivory flowers also hand-tied in ivory satin. Amri Kimball of Needville, longtime friend of the groom’s family, served as flower girl. She carried a basket covered in ivory satin and ivory florets made by the bride’s grandmother, Faye Coupland.

The groom’s friend, Joshua Schenk, of Spring, served the groom as best man. Groomsmen included Tracy Calbert, groom’s brother, of Stafford; Chase Ansel, groom’s friend, of Stafford; and Teddy DiBlasi, bride’s and groom’s friend, of Kingwood. Ring bearer was Coleton Coupland of Angleton, the bride’s cousin.

Guests were seated by Matt Dees, Nick Dees and Dillon Peltier, young men that David had coached in Danbury in years past, and by the bride’s cousin, Ryan McDaniel.

The couple shared communion at the altar, then lit the unity candle as soloist, Roger Smith, sang “I Will Be Here,” written by Stephen Curtis Chapman.

Members of the house party included Miss Katelyn Griffin of Danbury, Miss Linnie Harrison of Stafford, Mrs. Sherah McPherson of Roan’s Prairie and Miss Lynne Tousek of Pearland, all friends of the bride. The wedding ceremony director was Pastor Sandy Taylor.

A reception, dinner and dance, hosted by the bride’s parents, followed the ceremony at the Lake Jackson Civic Center. Mr. Charles Ferrand played the saxophone for the guests as they enjoyed dinner.

The bride wore a special wrist corsage in honor of her parents during the reception. The corsage was made from her mother’s bridal bouquet of 30 years ago, and her dad presented it to her at the rehearsal dinner.

The bride danced with her father to Stephen Curtis Chapman’s “Dancing With Cinderella,” and the couple danced their first dance to Emerson Drive’s “Belongs to You.” Rikki Lyn honored her new groom with a dance to the song, “I Just Call You Mine” by Martina McBride.

Maid of honor, Erin Edge, toasted her sister with a special remembrance of “What Is a Sister?” recalling childhood secrets that only the two of them knew.

Before the night ended, in what has become a Calbert family tradition, the Calbert men (the groom, his father, brother and nephew, Zach) entertained the guests with the dance move, the Gator, to the music of “Shout.” On this night, the father of the bride also joined in on the Calbert family tradition!

After enjoying a relaxing week-long honeymoon cruise, Rikki Lyn and David are happily at home in Missouri City.
