Pairs play for top par 3 prizes
Published November 13, 2009
It’s always fun to head to the course and play side-by-side with a loved one, especially when some of us get nagged for spending some of our free time on the fairways instead of at the home.
The Columbia Lakes Resort in West Columbia revamped its course and put together an interesting event for some of its members Sunday with the Couples Par 3 Tournament.
The paired scramble featured modified terrain where every hole was turned into a par 3. The couple of Duwayne and Peggy Davis outshot the competition and won the low net prize with a 48. Finishing in second, three strokes behind, were Bob and Melba Coburn.
Ernest Speed and Louis Peel teamed up to win the low net competition with a 43. Joe Bob and Darlene Garner placed second with a 44.
ACE: Fred Long scored the 10th ace of the year at the Alvin Golf and Country Club on Nov. 4. Long had a hole-in-one on the third hole from 160 yards out with a 6-iron during tournament play, and he pocketed a cool $1,000 pot.
TOURNAMENT COORDINATORS: The Wilderness in Lake Jackson gave back to some of its patrons Tuesday with its Tournament Coordinator Day “South Texas Hoe-Down” Golf Tournament. The 18-hole shamble included players whose organizations used The Wilderness to host tournaments and gives them a chance to book days for events next year at the course.
Winning first-place low net with a 57 was the team of Daudi Abe, Lakareber Abe, Gary Rodgers and Dale Aldrich. Three strokes behind in second place, and winning a scorecard playoff, was the group of John Stark, Chris Harmon, Anil Sinha and Dale Heathcock. Taking third place with a 60 was the threesome of David Myrick, Blayne Sparks and Dennis Dickson.
Winning low net with a 51.8 was the team of Katelyn Jones, Max Fulton and Charlie Storey. In second place at 54.3 was the group of Mike Beckman, Kevin Welch, Noe Gallardo and Fernando Garcia. Placing third with a 54.7 was the threesome of Tom Pyeatt, Pam Eaves and Erle Lindsey.
Closest to the pin for the men were Neil Woodward on No. 13 and John Devens on No. 18. Winners for the women were Patty Owen on No. 4 and Lakareber Abe on No. 9.
