Accident closes lanes on Highway 288
Published November 6, 2009
LAKE JACKSON — The right two lanes of Highway 288 southbound were closed for just more than an hour Thursday evening as emergency workers cleaned up after an accident, police said.
A white 1998 Dodge Intrepid driven by Chase Wilcox, 18, of Clute was turning into an apartment complex in the 400 block of Highway 288 at about 7 p.m. Thursday when he pulled in front of a 1993 Pontiac Bonneville driven by 45-year-old Clute resident Guadalupe Rodriguez, Lake Jackson Police Sgt. James Cromeenes said.
Rodriguez was traveling southbound on Highway 288 in the middle lane when his vehicle hit Wilcox’s, Cromeenes said. After the impact, Rodriguez’s vehicle hit a stop sign and a guardrail before it flipped into the ditch on its passenger side, he said.
Wilcox’s vehicle came to a stop after hitting the same guardrail, Cromeenes said.
Neither man was hurt in the accident, Cromeenes said.
Alcohol is not suspected as a contributing factor in the accident and both men were wearing seat belts, Cromeenes said.
