Melissa Lauren Ezell and Brett Andrew Owston Wigren were united in marriage on Saturday, June 13, 2009, at four o’clock in the afternoon at Elkins Resort on Priest Lake, Idaho, overlooking the Selkirk mountain range. Pastor Rob Eyman of Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church in Spokane, Washington, was the officiating minister at the double- ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Sherrie and Larry Ezell of Lake Jackson, the granddaughter of Sophie Ezell and Robert A. Threlkeld, and the late Geneva Stevens and Graham F. Ezell. The groom is the son of Lin and Bob Wigren of Spokane, Washington. He is the grandson of Vincent Fletcher and the late Beatrice Fletcher, Marguerite and George Wigren. The wedding took place on the the groom’s parents’ 41st anniversary.

Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a Renaissance ivory strapless dress with covered button detail and sweep train. A palomino Renaissance sash was tied at the back. Melissa carried a bouquet of green hydrangea, white spray roses, purple lisianthus, white lilac, pink peony and green mini orchids.

The wedding ceremony was held lakeside before a custom-made arch of local twigs and branches. Antique flower buckets containing lilacs, Kermit mums, roses, hydrangea, ivy and white ribbon streamers adorned the arch. Antique double flower buckets decorated the aisle using ivy, hydrangea, lilacs, Kermit mums and green roses. The bride created a custom aisle runner with the couple’s monogram. Melissa carried her great-grandmother’s handkerchief, which her mother also carried in her wedding 35 years before.

Erica Allen of Dallas served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Erin Dudley Marken of Denver, Colorado; Vanessa Grierson of Dallas; Heidi Wigren Cowan of Snohomish, Washington; Joana Semiao of Fort Worth; and honorary bridesmaid Deena Hassan of the Commonwealth of Dominica, West Indies. The bridesmaids carried bouquets of roses, Kermit mums, hydrangea, peony, hypericum berries and lilacs to complement their short, black, strapless dresses.

Serving as best man was Cole Elliott of Dallas. Groomsmen were Matthew Ezell of Corpus Christi; Sam Jones of Diana, Texas; Bobby Watkins of Dallas; Gary Dupree of Spokane, Washington; and Nick Akins of Quincy, Washington. Hudson Cowan, nephew of the groom, of Snohomish, Washington, served as ring bearer. The ring pillow was made by the groom’s grandmother and used in family weddings.

House party members were Kim Kansas, Erin Dry, Ann Ragsdale and Patty Kersey. Usher and aisle runner attendants were Seth Hutchins, Dean Ragsdale and Richard Kersey.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a dinner and dance reception at the lodge at Elkins Resort. The huckleberry-filled white wedding cake was decorated with fresh flowers. The groom’s 92-year-old grandfather enjoyed a special dance with the bride. Monogrammed paper cones were handmade by the groom’s mother, filled with her home-grown lavender, which was tossed as the couple departed for their honeymoon.

Prior to the wedding, a welcome party was given by Heidi and John Cowan of Snohomish, Washington, beside Priest Lake. On the eve of the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted a lakeside rehearsal dinner. The wedding day bridal luncheon was hosted by Martha Wallace of Lake Jackson.

Melissa and Brett were honored at a Texas reception held Saturday, June 27, at the Lake Jackson Civic Center. White hydrangeas decorated the rooms while a jazz trio entertained guests. The groom’s cake was decorated with the seal of the couple’s alma mater, Baylor University.
