The Rev. Simon Williams Sr.

Funeral services for the Rev. Simon Williams Sr., 61, of Sweeny, formerly of Churchill, will be Saturday, November 7, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Strait Gate Gospel Church in Brazoria with Dr. Rita Evans officiating.

Burial will follow at Galilee Cemetery in Brazoria, Texas.

He died Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was a member of Praise Fellowship Church. He enjoyed preaching, singing and playing his guitar. He also enjoyed cooking and fishing. He graduated in 1968 from Columbia High School.

He was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. Walter Odell Williams; and brother, Joshua Williams.

He is survived by his loving mother, Lula Bell Williams of Sweeny; wife, Shirley Fite Williams of Long Beach, California; son, Simon Williams Jr. of Long Beach, California; daughters, Syvee J. Fite of Las Vegas, Nevada, Simmone L. Williams of Long Beach, California, Ramona Williams of Houston and Denise Randon of Brazoria; stepdaughter, LaShannda L. Cokley of Long Beach, California; brothers, Walter James Williams of Wilmington, California, and Timothy Williams Sr. (Fawn) of West Columbia; sisters, Victory Earls of Houston and Wanda Gale Lemon (George) of Sweeny; sister-in-law, Rosie Williams of Texas City; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and host of other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Ernest Williams, Wayne Johnson, Oliver Bryant, Calvin Williams, Mark Bonner and Gerald Bonner.

Honorary pallbears will be Walter J. Williams, Timothy B. Williams Sr., Simon L. Williams Jr., George W. Lemon and Abe Bryant.

Visitation will be Friday, November 6, 2009, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria.

There will be viewing at the church on Saturday, November 7, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. only. There will be no viewing afterward.
