Given his long career in the insurance business, state Sen. Larry Taylor’s knowledge far exceeds our own when it comes to how best to protect property owners and the process for determining premiums. It’s also fair to say lawmakers are far more likely to understand proposed changes to the Texas Windstorm Insurance Agency authored by Taylor, as we speak only pidgin legislatese.

What should be clear as the legislative session winds down is the continued conflict between the state government providing insurance of last resort to coastal homeowners and their representatives’ promises to keep the cost of that insurance at bare minimums.
