CLUTE — Highway 288 will be seeing lane closures today so CenterPoint Energy can work on power lines, but the hope is most commuters won’t even notice.

“This work will be performed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on May 15 and May 22,” said Texas Department of Transportation Public Information Officer Danny Perez. “This is a 15-minute temporary closure so the contractor for CenterPoint can run the lines from one utility pole to the new concrete utility pole.”

The work will be performed between the Dixie Drive and Main Street exits.

The time the work will take place will undoubtedly be better for commuters than the transformer and pole fire at Lazy Lane and the Highway 288/332 frontage road that backed up traffic for hours last month.

While the closure is expected to be quick and done outside of peak hours, commuters should still be wary any time they are going into a construction zone.
