When Justin Gambino began planning the release party for his album “Journey Within My Soul,” he heard two voices telling him how to proceed. One, seemingly the voice of God, told him to host the community for free to foster healing in an area recovering from Hurricane Harvey. The other was his wallet, which said $12,000 was too much to spend with no return.

For a while, the musician planned ticket sales so he would break even but he couldn’t shake the nagging feeling the party should be free. Finally, he gave in.
