Jesus on Palm Sunday

Jesus enters Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.

Some years ago, I met a man who had actually been at the World War II victory celebrations in New York’s Times Square. Like thousands of other service personnel, he had been passing through when news broke the war was over. That’s when that iconic photograph was taken, of a sailor and a nurse embracing the moment and sharing a kiss. What a celebration that must have been. A wonderful sense of euphoria gripped the crowd; it was a day to remember.

Everybody loves a parade: when Johnny comes marching home again; when De Gaulle enters Paris; when Patton gets a ticker-tape parade; when Jesus comes to Jerusalem …
