ANGLETON — A group of Houston-based activists has called for a federal investigation into allegations the jury selection process in Brazoria County violated state law and the rights of defendants.

Quanell X and other civil rights advocates hosted a news conference Monday in front of the Brazoria County Courthouse, five days after accusations of improprieties under former Brazoria County District Clerk Rhonda Barchak came to light. Barchak retired Thursday after a preliminary probe by the Brazoria County District Attorney’s Office.
