ANGLETON — New federal flood maps are here, and in what is likely little surprise to county residents, more of the county is now considered in a flood zone.

“The previous maps were from 1989, so you can imagine — there was a large gap in having new maps, so it was important because of the advanced way they map now, versus back in the ’80s,” Brazoria County Floodplain Administrator Joe Ripple said. “They feel like these are more accurate. But the challenge is, there’s a larger portion of the county that went into flood zones.
