FREEPORT — Dozens of people chanted the name of U.S. Air Force Veteran Ashli Babbitt at a rally in her honor Sunday afternoon at Bridge Harbor Yacht Club.

Babbitt died during the Jan. 6 incursion at the U.S. Capitol, one of the thousands of protesters to storm the building after a "Stop the Steal" rally headlined by President Donald Trump. A Capitol Police lieutenant shot Babbitt in the shoulder as she attempted to climb through a broken window and gain entry to the Speaker's Lobby outside the House chamber, video of the event shows.

Thanks for printing this. Justice was not served by a corrupt justice department. She was unarmed and not a threat. We could only imagine if this was an ANTIFA or BLM protestor what the ruling would be

The police officer should have been charged with murder

LJDude

The real tragedy is that this young women was motivated to join the riot and break into the capital in the first place. I guess the 4-5 officers that have died as a result of the riot don't count. I don't see her as a hero at all, but an insurrectionist that payed the ultimate price for her ignorance. This was a Trump rally masquerading as a memorial. Sad!

Ashli Babbit was a victim of the big lie pushed by trump and his cronies. Not the officers fault who shot her as she was manically trying to get through that window. Look at her social media posts. She wasn’t there to just peacefully voice her displeasure over the outcome. Disgusting that someone who served in the military to protect our country felt it was within her right to try and overthrow an election. Even more disgusting are those who consider themselves law and order supporters that are uplifting a treasonist as a hero and victim over the police officers who defended the Capitol from those clowns. This has nothing to do with BLM; just another deflection for acceptance by the good ‘ole boys club.

PJBM626

You would be yelling racism if a cop shot a black criminal without a weapon coming through a window Stop your hypocrisy

PJBM626

Where are folks for justice when BLM and SNTIFS were biting cities and police stations. Then sttacking police and business owners while dem party affiliates bailed them out and called these peaceful rally’s ??

natives5

Justice is being served....just google Ivan Hunter.

natives5

Then you agree that Babbitt was a criminal. At least we agree on one thing. However, I know you always need a boogeyman in your rants so blame BLM (not sure what SNTIFS is.... conservative dogs ready to stop the steal?!?!?) who have yet to be indicted or implicated in the 01/06 insurrection. Where is your concern for the officers that were beaten and maimed by the mob? So much for law and order, eh?

PJBM626

Boogyman? I guess you just turned your TV off when cities , police stations and Businesses were attacked and destroyed by ANTIFA and BLM ?Where police were threatened and in limited situations shot armed attackers dems, dem propaganda media went nuts. But an unarmed female who did break the law , was shot and killed

Now we know how you and others would react if that was an unarmed black woman breaking into a business, home or government building. There would be riots and demand that officer be indicted. This is truth.

natives5

Maybe you should do some soul searching as you keep bringing up race; not me. You are so lost in your assumptions of me that all I can do is laugh then pray for you. What in my previous statement made you conclude that I’d feel differently if it where a black female criminal? I guess since I support criminals that I can stop donating to the 100 Club. Kick rocks man.

PJBM626

Conclude. I’ve read many of your post and race has been paramount in many. You call Trump and other racist just be use you don’t agree, when folks know they aren’t. That’s a start. I’ve seen many of your posts on police shootings. That’s how I came to this conclusion. Come on your open book on both

Then admit ,if that were an unarmed black woman was shot by a white police officer in a similar situation. you would feel justice was served

natives5

So you think I’m okay with criminals as long as they are people of color?!?! You are truly sick and lost. What we know is that There are no black women on trial or under indictment for the insurrection yet you deflect to them to justify Babbitt’s criminal and treasonist actions. Soul searching brother, soul searching.

PJBM626

Native I know your hypocrisy. You’ve posted to many times about police reform. You need the soul searching .I know you would be screaming along with the facts and dem media, police brutality if the person who got shot was other. This is truth

natives5

Hmmm so supporting police reform means that I support criminals who are, as you stated, “other” which I believe you mean other than white like Babbitt?!?!?! Such absurdity that I can’t even…Must be hard being you. Have a good evening, PJBM.

She was breaking the law. She was taking part in riot. She was trying to illegally enter a building. If she had lived, she should have been court martialed for insurrection and treason.
