SWEENY — When district superintendent Tory Hill and high school principal Tyler Rowlett learned of the opportunity to nominate a student for the State Board of Education’s Student Heroes Award, they thought of one person.

“The first person in my mind was Byron, and I told (Hill), and he said, ‘You took the words right out of my head,’” Rowlett said.
