FREEPORT — Residents had a chance to see what life was like in colonial Texas as the Freeport Historical Museum commemorated Fort Velasco Day and the battle considered by historians to represent the first shots of the Texas Revolution.

A re-enactment of the Battle of Fort Velasco between Texas settlers and Mexican forces took place in East Park Avenue.
