SWEENY — A former Sweeny High School teacher and coach was released on bond Wednesday after his arrest on charges of sexual assault of a child and improper relationship with a student.

Eric Shelton, 28, posted a $100,000 bond and was released from the Brazoria County jail on Wednesday, a day after his arrest. He was indicted by a Brazoria County grand jury Thursday on five charges related to incidents involving two students, according to the indictments.

Why are there not clauses in their contract for this type of behavior?

In the States it is still Innocent until proved guilty, Isn't it?

Shelton is not working in the district, but remains on the payroll because the process to terminate him would cost the district more money than paying out the rest of his contract, Miksch said. His contract expires at the end of the school year, he said.

It seems the charges would void any contract he had with the district. He should be terminated. This matter should be looked into for contracts with teachers in the future.
