Kaden Hurt stands with his dad, JD, on the fishing pier outside of Freeport's RiverPlace as he participates in the Fishin' Fiesta Kid Fish on July 7, 2012. The pier will be repaired using money from the Freeport EDC.

FREEPORT — Repairs to the Riverplace fishing pier and new lights at city baseball and softball fields will be funded through the Freeport Economic Development Corp. instead of bond money, Freeport City Council decided.

The $65,480 for the new lighting at the SFA softball fields and Riverside youth baseball fields and $48,956 to remove and repair the Riverplace fishing pier are contingent on the EDC board approving the expenditures at upcoming meeting.
