FREEPORT — The Dow Chemical Co. will start construction on a new methylene diphenyl diisocyanate, or MDI, distillation and prepolymers facility this month in Freeport, officials announced Wednesday.

“Methylene diphenyl diisocyanate is a key raw material that combines with polyols to produce polyurethane in various forms, including foams, coatings and elastomers,” Dow Chemical Corporate Media Relations Leader Ashley Mendoza said via email.
