We ripped July pages from calendars last week and shifted into August and back-to-school preparations, marking the beginning of summer’s end. For the past several years, August has meant another season is ramping up along the Texas Gulf Coast — hurricane season.

The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30 — a solid six months out of each year. June and July have lately been fairly quiet months for Brazoria County, but officials still urge getting ready for the season as early as possible.
