I have been in Lake Jackson working remotely the past few weeks from Manhattan. I was tested for COVID-19 when I arrived in Texas. I wore a mask I was respectful of boundaries and stayed my 6 feet apart from people. I found out not even 24 hours later I was tested negative (hooray) for COVID-19.

At first I wore my mask into all public spaces but noticed quickly it was not enforced or even encouraged. Mass crowds at all major chains, countless hugs being shared and hand shakes. It made me feel normal, happy and I started to do the same. I forgot about my mask and my worry and the world that had COVID-19. I too bought into the delusion of the “City With Immunity.”

Joy McKay is currently residing in Lake Jackson.

Maybe you would be happier back in New York.

Thank you , Ms KcKay. Common sense to wear a mask and thanks for sharing your story. I pray for a quick recovery for your family.

Wonderful story. Send it to MSNBC, CNN, etc. That's currently a topic; for example, if when jogging past someone without a mask, are you vulnerable. I add, when walking past 3-5 people in the grocery isle, are you gonna get sick and die. I say, watch out, hold your breath. ha ha[beam] Oh, ignore negativity comment ( typical).
