The mayors of Lake Jackson and Clute showed leadership Friday in becoming the first southern Brazoria County cities to require businesses to require employees and customers to wear masks and social distance.
If that sounds convoluted, it’s because it is. City and county governments can’t directly require masks and social distancing as an effort to stop a drastic spike in COVID-19 cases in Texas. The governor won’t allow that. They can, however, pass the buck to businesses and require them to require it of their customers if they want to keep their doors open. And of course we want that.
