Editorial cartoon for July 18, 2020

There is no question our economy is hurting right now. Another obvious fact — interest in local news is higher than ever. As the COVID-19 pandemic deepens, there has never been a more important time to have access to solid, local information away from the cesspool of nastiness that has become social media.

Our weekly page views at thefacts.com are averaging 75 percent higher than they were in the same weeks in 2019. In July alone, we hit more than 1.5 million page views, certainly bolstered by daily COVID-19 reports and other select stories we offer to all readers free of charge.

It’s a bipartisan bill but of course you “attack” the Democrats. Weren’t you the one just preaching about hypocrisy?

PJBM626

So yesterday, after enjoying the humorous comments, I read the article. Hey PJBM, slow down your usual shoot-from-hip approach, and reRead the article for retention before spouting off about "waste of tax dollars.!" This Local Journalism Sustainability Act that Ms. Mintz is discussing is a TAX CREDIT. It's not so unlike the other Coronavirus relief bills approved by "your Senators" that included TAX CREDITS: Small employer tax credits and payroll tax relief to cover required COVID-19-related employee paid leave (part of the FFCRA) AND Employee retention tax credit for all eligible employers. Have you called "your Senators" (give me a break - fake news) about all the earlier relief packages and complain about "wasting tax dollars?" So far, they have disagreed with your opinion.

So, PJBM as you reREAD for understanding the content of the article, I guess you are not interested in helping local businesses such as your favorite restaurant, plumber, beutician, etc. with their advertising costs (radio and TV in addition to newspapers)? You must not br interested in the 80% tax credit for subscription costs, either? Huh? Of course, I know you OBJECT to assistance to journalists at the papers. I guess you won't call Republican Randy Weber, a co-sponsor of the bill.

PJBM626

I understand the act. I support businesses and folks I need. Not the media.
