TIDEHAVEN — Sweeny and Columbia were eliminated Monday from the UIL Class 4A volleyball playoffs following straight-set losses.

Now that Columbia has clinched its fifth straight postseason berth, the Lady ’Necks prepare for their Class 4A Region IV bidistrict matchup against Sinton on Monday.

Needing just one win to clinch fourth place in the District 24-6A volleyball standings, the Brazoswood Lady Bucs came through in shining colors on Tuesday with a three set sweep of Clear Falls 25-18, 25-22, 25-21.

With a playoff spot already secured, the Columbia Roughnecks used Tuesday's District 25-4A matchup with Brazosport as a tune-up of sorts, sweeping the Lady Exporters and eliminating from playoff contention Tuesday with a 26-24, 25-17, 25-18 win.

Athletics schedules continued to move around Wednesday as officials decide how to proceed with games for the remainder of the week amid damage from Hurricane Nicholas.

Hurricane Nicholas has impacted the local sports calendar for the next few days. With most of the Southern Brazoria County schools closed today, others might go until the end of this week.
