BAY CITY — Early in the final period Friday night, Columbia coach Brent Mascheck and Bay City coach Robert Jones were going at it — jawing at each other across the football field at Blackcat Memorial Stadium.

“It’s nothing but competitiveness. I love him to death, we are friends, but it is the emotion of the game,” Mascheck said. “He is standing up for his kid and I am standing up for my kid, which in many ways is normal.”
