FREEPORT — Kody Smith’s infectious energy and care for everybody he was in contact with were some of the qualities Brazosport coaches said about the Exporters coach and teacher who died from complications of his liver transplant Saturday morning.

“It’s a tragedy and definitely unexpected,” Exporters running back coach Richard Sincere said. “It will affect a lot of people. Coach Smith was such a great dude. Outside of a good coach, he was a great person.”
